Boy band 'One Direction' was tonight named as the third place runners up in this year’s 'X Factor'.
The five-piece group including Niall Horan from Westmeath, looked dejected as host Dermot O’Leary revealed the initial result of the viewers’ vote.
Their departure leaves Matt Cardle and Rebecca Ferguson to battle it out for the 2010 title of TV3’s hugely popular show.
The group's mentor Simon Cowell said: ``I'm absolutely gutted for them, but for everyone who's bothered to pick up the phone over the past few weeks, I really appreciate it.
“All I can say is, this is just the beginning for these boys.”
