Two policemen were injured in the Netherlands today when one of two bombs planted in IKEA department stores exploded as it was defused.

All 10 IKEA outlets in the country were closed while officers searched for a third bomb that they suspect may remain hidden.

A section of the A-12 road in Utrecht, east of Amsterdam, was also shut.

The bombs were found in Amsterdam and Sliedrecht, a town near the port city of Rotterdam, police said.

The Sliedrecht device exploded at a police station where it had been taken to be defused, injuring two policemen.

There was no immediate information about the type of device or how they were discovered, or who was responsible.
