A 46-year-old Co Meath man is due to go on trial at the Central Criminal Court later this week charged with murdering a mother-of-three in Cork last year.
Derrick Daly, originally of Enfield in Meath, with an address at St Vincent's Hostel in Cork city, was brought before the Central Criminal Court yesterday.
Wearing a black suit and tie, he stood and pleaded not guilty to the murder of Catherine Smart at her home in Bailick Court, Midleton on April 4, 2010.
The separated mother was discovered in her house on Easter Sunday morning having sustained serious head injuries.
A jury of five men and seven women was sworn in for the case which is due to get underway on Friday next.
The trial is expected to take two weeks.
