Eamon Ryan said the Green Party is facing tough times but that the party is determined to do what is necessary to steer the country out of economic difficulty.

The Minister for Communications was speaking at a special meeting of Green Party members being held in Dublin today.

Education and health have been dominating proceedings so far following the publication of the McCarthy, or An Bord Snip Nua, report on Thursday.

Later, members will be asked to support the re-run of the Lisbon Treaty referendum in October.

Minister Ryan said that although it is a tough time to be in government, the Greens are determined to do their bit to get Ireland's finances back on track.
