America Ferrera is set to make her theatre debut in London’s West End.
The ‘Ugly Betty’ actress is in talks to appear in ‘reasons to be pretty’, which is scheduled to open n the famous UK theatre district in March.
Howard Panter, joint managing director of the Ambassador Theatre Group - who will stage the production - says the Neil LaBute-penned play has similarities to the US sitcom which made America a household name.
He told the Daily Mail newspaper: “It’s about people being drawn to the superficial, and how we all get seduced by the surface – and how that can be a thorny path.”
‘The Bourne Ultimatum’ actress Julia Stiles is also in the running for a role in the play.
The play was previously shown off-Broadway two years ago before being revised for a bigger stage in New York.
America has previously revealed she loves playing a heroine who championed real women.
She said: “It’s so reassuring to have a heroine who triumphs with more than just what she has on the outside.
“To me, the tragedy about this whole image-obsessed society is that young girls get so caught up in just achieving that, they forget they have so much more to offer the world.”
America is not the only major star to appear on the stage in London in the past – Nicole Kidman, Kevin Spacey and Whoopi Goldberg have all trod the boards of the West End.
