Irish MEP Niall Andrews has reiterated his call for a speedy ruling in the trial of three Irishmen accused of training anti-government rebels in Colombia.

Irish MEP Niall Andrews has reiterated his call for a speedy ruling in the trial of three Irishmen accused of training anti-government rebels in Colombia.

Mr Andrews is part of a delegation of Irish politicians that is currently in Colombia to discuss the trial and ongoing detention of Niall Connolly, Jim Monaghan and Martin McCauley.

The three were arrested in August 2001 after leaving territory controlled by the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), a left-wing rebel group that has been fighting the Government for almost 40 years.

Their trial ended last year, but no ruling has been issued yet.

Mr Andrews said today that he was concerned about the length of time the Irishmen have been left in virtual limbo.

"Justice delayed is justice denied," he said.
