Ten arrested in kidnapping probe
Ten people were arrested today in a series of dawn raids over a tiger kidnapping which targeted the family of All-Ireland winning Kilkenny hurler Adrian Ronan.
Gardai said six men and four women, all aged in their 20s and 30s, were detained after searches in the Dublin area.
An armed gang targeted the family in a tiger kidnapping on November 3 last year and ordered the hurler to take his three children to a Bank of Ireland branch in Kilkenny city where he works and take money.
His wife Mary, who was being held hostage, later escaped unharmed after being abandoned in a car on the outskirts of the city. No money was handed over.
The 10 suspects were being detained in various stations throughout the south-east including Kilkenny, Carlow, Waterford, Thomastown and Tramore.
It is understood they were being questioned over false imprisonment and attempted robbery.
They were being held under section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act 2007 and section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.
