Tallaght Hospital report to be published today

A report into the safety of care provided to Emergency Department patients at Tallaght Hospital in Dublin will be published today.

The Health Information and Quality Authority began its year long investigation into the safety of care provided to patients requiring emergency admission to the hospital after an inquest into the death of a patient.

The 65-year-old man died while in a corridor, waiting for a bed.

The inquest raised serious concerns about overcrowding and the management of risk at the hospital.

The year-long investigation is expected to criticise the way the hospital dealt with overcrowding in the Emergency Department and it is likely to recommend changes to improve accountability.

Minister for Health James Reilly said that many of the problems have already been identified by the hospital, his Department and the HSE and are being acted upon.
