Anna Pavlova could bid for quick compensation after her near-miss at York last week in the EBF Joan Westbrook Pinnacle Stakes at Haydock on Saturday.
Richard Fahey’s classy filly looked set to gain her first Group victory in the Middleton Stakes before being collared close home by course specialist Topatoo.
But with rain forecast over Merseyside at the weekend, Fahey sees the Listed event for fillies and mares as a perfect opportunity for Anna Pavlova to add to her win at Navan earlier in the season.
“They are forecast some rain so it looks like she could run,” said Fahey.
“I don’t think she was on the worst of the ground on the rails at York – later in the week they were winning coming up there.
“She is just not a straightforward filly and she has a few little quirks. I think it was the gallop that beat her more than anything.
“They cantered round and then they sprinted and that is not what she wants, and at the end of the day she was beaten by a course specialist.
“I was happy with her. What she wants is heavy ground and is wasn’t soft enough at York.”
