Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny said today that it is time to put the victim at the centre of the debate on crime.

Addressing a party conference on the issue in Dublin this afternoon, he also called for radical changes to the way gardaí operate in order to deal with anti-social behaviour and lack of respect in society.

The party is planning to publish a set of proposals this autumn.

Deputy Kenny said that ordinary people are living in fear and that the law is skewed in favour of criminal.
