RTÉ to introduce cost-cutting measures

Cost cutting measures are being brought in at RTÉ in a bid to ensure the national broadcaster keeps to its budget for next year.

Director General Cathal Goan has written to staff, informing them of the organisation's plans to make savings through the suspension of several capital projects, and cut backs on programmes and foreign travel.

RTÉ is also proposing to introduce a six-month freeze on agreed pay increases for staff.

The non-replacement of some workers is also being planned, where employees retire, or where casual or fixed term contracts expire.
