Jordan driver Takuma Sato escaped serious injury following a frightening accident during today’s Austrian Grand Prix at the A-1 Ring.
Sauber’s Nick Heidfeld spun on the approach to turn two and his car careered over the grass and smashed into the side of Sato, innocently making his way around the corner.
The Japanese driver was carefully lifted out of his stricken machine by medics and placed on a drip before being rushed away by ambulance and airlifted to hospital.
However, team boss Eddie Jordan revealed his driver has escaped without any broken bones.
He told ITV: ‘‘I’ve been down to see Sid Watkins (F1’s doctor) and he reckons it’s the biggest miracle he’s seen. I was really worried because I saw him pumping his heart.
‘‘I went to talk to Sid just to see if he’s stable and it’s much better than that.
‘‘There are no injuries. He’s down there talking and it looks like he is going to be alright, there’s nothing broken.’’
