Navy divers recover body of woman in River Lee

Navy divers have this evening recovered the body of a woman from a car which entered the River Lee close to Cork city centre.

Navy divers have this evening recovered the body of a woman from a car which entered the River Lee close to Cork city centre.

The car left the unprotected quayside at Kennedy Quay shortly before 5pm.

Emergency services were quickly at the scene, but the car was completely submerged within seconds.

The woman's body has been removed to hospital where a post mortem examination is to take place.
