Publicans are reportedly being urged to serve drink in plastic glasses due to the high number of alcohol-related assaults involving broken glass.

Reports this morning said a study of young male assault victims at accident and emergency wards in Dublin found that a "disturbing" number of them had been attacked with broken glasses or bottles.

The doctor who conducted the study has reportedly begun a campaign urging publicans to serve drinks in plastic containers in an effort to tackle the problem.
