Sinn Féin to launch road safety policy

Sinn Féin will today launch its all-Ireland road safety policy.

Senator Pearse Doherty will be joined with the party’s spokesperson on Road Safety in the Northern Ireland Assembly, Cathal Boylan MLA, along with Oisín Dolan of Ogra Shinn Fein.

Mr Doherty, whose home county of Donegal has one of the worst records for road safety in the country, will set out the party’s proposal to tackle the carnage on Irish roads at a press conference in the Earl of Kildare Hotel.

This comes after it was announced last week that thousands of motorists disqualified from driving across Ireland and Britain are to have their bans automatically enforced in each jurisdiction.

The new harmonised system, agreed between the British and Irish governments, is due to come into effect next April.
