A search operation is continuing in Co Offaly today for the body of Fiona Pender, who has been missing and presumed dead for the past 12 years.

The operation, involving around 30 members of the Gardaí and Defence Forces, was mounted yesterday in the Slieve Bloom mountains.

A similar search was also mounted earlier this year after a wooden cross bearing Ms Pender's name was found in the area.

Gardaí say they will be interviewing a number of people in the coming days in connection with the case.

Ms Pender was 25 years old and pregnant when she went missing from her flat in Tullamore in August 1996.
