Dublin road projects should be a priority - Greens

The Green Party says massive new road projects proposed for the Greater Dublin region should be a priority of the Government.

The Green Party says massive new road projects proposed for the Greater Dublin region should be a priority of the Government.

The proposals include an eastern bypass linking the Port Tunnel with the M50 and a new orbital road encircling the city.

The plans are already on hold and Green Party transport spokesperson Ciaran Cuffe said today that it would be stupid for the Government to go ahead with the projects at present.

Launching a 10-point plan for sustainable transport this morning, he said the emissions produced by the cars using these routes would cost the taxpayer via fines to Europe.

Mr Cuffe said the funds for these projects should be redirected into upgrading rail and bus services and building LUAS lines in Cork and Galway.
