'No' campaign launched today

The campaign for a "No" vote to the Nice Treaty have launched their campaign today.

The campaign for a "No" vote to the Nice Treaty have launched their campaign today.

The Green Party, Sinn Féin, the Socialist Party and a number of independent TDs have collaborated to form the Alliance Against Nice.

Central to their bid to convince the electorate to vote "No" is the fact that in holding the Referendum for a second time, the Government is making a mockery of democracy.

It said that Ireland was the only EU country allowed to vote on Nice and the Irish people already voted No.

The Alliance Against Nice say the electorate must vote "No" again against the Treaty to prevent the development of a two-tier Europe and the formation of a European superpower.

It said a "Yes" vote would create a system where Ireland loses its EU Commissioner periodically and where Ireland will lose its power of veto over the bigger states.
