The Fianna Fail leader Bertie Ahern has said he would be happy to enter the new government with the Progressive Democrats.

In the wake of another opinion poll showing Fianna Fail within reach of an overall majority, opposition parties are warning of the dangers of a single party government.

The Fianna Fail leader says private research by his own party show they will not have enough numbers to govern alone.

And the Taoiseach said they’ve won nothing yet.

“"When the polls open at 7.30 on May 17 we will have no votes at that stage except the few votes we will have through postal votes,” he said.

“When we close at 10.30pm that night all my questions will be how many votes do we have. The emphasis when you think about that is not really on polls, how good or as bad they may be."
