Levy for owners of second homes comes into effect

Owners of second homes and investment properties have until the end of the month to pay a new €200 tax.

The levy comes into effect today.

The annual tax is payable to the local authority where the property is located and there is a €20 penalty for every month that it is not paid.

Failure to comply could result in a fine of up to €2,000.
