Man in court over assault of Polish man

A man is due in court in Cork this morning in connection with a serious assault on a Polish man at the weekend.

A man is due in court in Cork this morning in connection with a serious assault on a Polish man at the weekend.

The 30-year-old victim is fighting for his life following the attack in the city on Saturday evening.

The man was seriously injured on Lower Oliver Plunket street at the back of the Simon shelter at around 6.30pm on Saturday evening.

He was rushed to Cork University Hospital where he underwent emergency surgery and remains in a critical condition.

A 28-year-old Irish man was arrested at the scene and is due to appear in Cork District Court this morning in connection with the assault.

Meanwhile, gardaí have appealed to anyone who was in Lower Oliver Plunkett St between 5.30pm and 6.45pm on Saturday and saw anything suspicious to contact them at Anglesea Street station.
