Kilkenny based gynaecologist due before inquiry after poor performance claims

A consultant gynaecologist is facing allegations of poor professional performance in relation to the treatment of four women at a Kilkenny Hospital.

Dr Peter Van Geene performed hysterectomies on the four patients at Aut Even private clinic between 2009 and 2011.

The patients are alleged to have suffered serious complications after the operations, in many cases requiring further treatment.

One patient, Helen Cruise, who has waived her right to anonymity, is due to give evidence at the Medical Council inquiry this morning.
