Tánaiste Joan Burton has said that the cost to the taxpayer of meeting the redundancy liabilities of the 400 Clerys workers is likely to be in the millions.
Minister Burton said that the State will be obliged to meet the employees redundancies.

Speaking to Clare FM, she described the closure as "an act of predatory capitalism".
She said: "We're currently working with the former workers to see what the situation is.
"The next stage is obviously in relation to the actual liquidation, and when that takes place.
From what I read of the arrangements, the State will be on the hook."
