The president of the Irish Nurses’ Organisation has called on the Government to take action to alleviate the hardship caused by rising nursing home charges.

The president of the Irish Nurses’ Organisation has called on the Government to take action to alleviate the hardship caused by rising nursing home charges.

The Government has already deferred its proposed Fair Deal scheme, which would have seen a resident's care funded by 80% of their pension and a levy of up to 15% on their estate after their death.

The INO has said that a growing number of residents fear they will not be able to afford to stay in their nursing homes.
