A bogus policeman was involved in the armed hold-up of a family in their Co Down home, it was revealed today.
A Downpatrick householder noticed a strange car pull up outside his home late last night.
When he went to the front door, a stranger in a fake policeman’s uniform confronted him at gunpoint and forced his way in. Two other men, who were also armed, followed him into the house.
Police said that while one man held the householder’s wife and three children at gunpoint in one room, the two others took him into another room and demanded money.
A scuffle ensued and eventually the men ran out and made off empty-handed in a red Vauxhall Vectra, said a Police Service of Northern Ireland spokesman.
None of the family is reported to have suffered physical injury .
