The US has ordered new procedures after two planes had to land without air traffic assistance because the controller on duty was asleep.

The US has ordered new procedures after two planes had to land without air traffic assistance because the controller on duty was asleep.

Regional radar operators have been told that planes must be able to divert if no controller can be raised at the airport.

The incident at Reagan National Airport near Washington involved a combined total of 165 people on board.
