Rod Millman received a good omen for his Gold Cup challenge with Sergeant Cecil when sending out Mustajed to prove a convincing winner of the Albert Samuel ’City Bowl’ Handicap at Salisbury.
The 3-1 favourite travelled superbly well under Hugh Bowman and when asked to go and win his race, readily quickened three lengths and a neck clear of Love Always and Bull Market.
Millman has an ambitious plan for the winner, who will now be pointed at the Northumberland Plate.
He said: “He fractured a back pastern and I was able to pick him up quite cheaply at Doncaster Sales, only for him to fracture the other pastern last year and he now has screws in both legs.
“I thought today’s race was made for him and hopefully we’ll take him up to Newcastle for the Plate. He’s a bit of a character, but he has bags of ability.”
