New US air security rules begin today

Irish people flying to the United States will be finger-printed and photographed at their point of departure under new rules coming into force today.

Irish people flying to the United States will be finger-printed and photographed at their point of departure under new rules coming into force today.

The controversial rules are part of increased security measures introduced by the Bush administration in the wake of the September 11 attacks.

Under the measures, all people travelling to the US from the EU will be digitally photographed and will have their right and left index fingers scanned.
