The Taoiseach came under sustained pressure from his junior coalition partners to clarify issues surrounding his personal finances this afternoon.

Green Party leader John Gormley is the latest figure to call on Bertie Ahern to make a statement about revelations at the Mahon Tribunal.

His call followed similar comments by acting PD leader Mary Harney, who said public disquiet needed to be dispelled as soon as possible.

Speaking to reporters, Minister John Gormley said it was time questions were answered: "There's considerable concern within my own party and out there amongst the general public about some of the evidence emerging from the tribunal," Minister Gormley said.

"It's probably in the best interests of everyone that a statement is made to clarify this by the Taoiseach."
