Detectives in the North have been given another 36 hours to question three people about the murder of a man beaten to death as he returned home from a wedding.

Jim McFadden, 42, was beaten on the head with baseball bats or sticks at his front door in Derry.

His 15-year-old daughter and a youth of 16 were with him when the killers got out of a car and launched their attack in the City’s Moyola Drive area early yesterday morning.

Two men and a woman were detained after Mr McFadden, a father of four, died in hospital from his injuries.

Police said no motive had been established for what they described as an unprovoked attack.

After making a court application, they were granted more time to interview the suspects as part of their inquiries.
