The Irish Patients Association is calling for the introduction of a European patients’ charter to guarantee people basic health needs.

The proposed charter is due to be discussed at an Irish Nurses Organisation symposium in Dublin later today.

The INO said the charter would guarantee people equal access to healthcare in the EU regardless of their financial status or where they live.

Liam Doran, the organisation’s general secretary, said it was needed because of the free movement of millions of people throughout the EU.
