Micheál Martin rules out a coalition with Sinn Féin

The Fianna Fáil leader Micheál Martin has ruled out going into coalition with Sinn Féin.

Micheal Martin has said Sinn Féin's "way of doing business" isn't compatible with his party, and its economic plan is "anti-jobs".

In a statement this morning he said Fianna Fáil is "competing to lead the next government".

His comments follow those of Sinn Féin leader Gerry Adams, who yesterday stopped short of ruling out a coalition involving Fianna Fáil: “We have made it clear that we are not going to do what Labour did with these bigger conservative parties…

“The wonderful thing about the election is that nobody really knows what’s going to come out of it, so when we are clear what comes out of it, we will talk to whoever we think it is appropriate to talk to.”
