Three men were today being questioned about the murder of a former gravedigger in Co Antrim.

They were arrested by detectives carrying out searches in Carrickfergus where Tommy Hollran, 49, was beaten to death on Saturday.

Mr Hollran was attacked after defying an order to stay out of his home town.

It is believed he had been told to leave Carrickfergus late last year following a dispute with loyalist paramilitaries.

But he travelled by train from Belfast where he was living in a hostel after splitting with his wife, to visit relatives. It was as he walked from the station that he was attacked in an alleyway in the Woodburn area and left with serious head injuries. He died later in hospital.

Detectives have confirmed that paramilitaries may have been involved in the killing.
