Three people have been receiving hospital treatment after their car was hit by a bus in Dublin's Ballsbridge this morning.

The bus had been called in to provide additional NiteLink facilities, due to a number of events in Dublin.

However, it was not needed and was heading to Donnybrook depot at about 4.40am when the driver claims a car broke a red light, causing the bus to skid and hit a pole and a car.

Dublin Bus and the Gardaí are likely to examine CCTV footage from cameras aboard the bus to establish the cause of the accident.

The injured people, who are understood to be foreign nationals, were taken to St Vincent’s Hospital, but they are not believed to be badly hurt.

The driver escaped uninjured.
