Millwall have won their appeal against charges of racist chanting last season, according to club officials.
The south London club were originally fined a total of £32,500 (€48,000) by the Football Association for the “racist or abusive behaviour” of their supporters and for “failing to prevent spectators throwing missiles onto the pitch” in the Carling Cup match against Liverpool on October 26 last year.
The FA had also ruled that Millwall would have to play one home match behind closed doors should they be charged with similar offences during the 2005-06 campaign.
Acting chairman Theo Paphitis had protested vehemently against the FA ruling, and a statement on the club’s official website appeared to confirm his efforts had proved successful.
“Millwall Football Club have today had their appeal against charges of racist chanting in the Carling Cup match against Liverpool upheld,” read the statement.
