The Government is reportedly planning to introduce legislation allowing couples to marry in a venue of their choosing.

The Government is reportedly planning to introduce legislation allowing couples to marry in a venue of their choosing.

At present, marriages can only take place in churches or registry offices.

However, under the Government's plans, civil marriages could take place in any "seemly and dignified" public place so long as no food or alcohol was served during the ceremony.

Individual churches would still be allowed to regulate the venues at which religious marriages could take place.
