The SDLP is due to outline its plans for the future of policing in the North later today.

The party is expected to call for the closure of 25 local police stations, including Andersonstown barracks in west Belfast, as part of a security reassessment.

In a six-page document, the SDLP will also call for the PSNI to begin moves towards becoming an unarmed service.

Officers have already begun using cars instead of armoured vehicles and many no longer wear bullet-proof jackets.
