Mayo 1-19 Cavan 3-7, Castlebar

Mayo showed glimpses of their 2006 form as they scored a well-merited qualifier victory over Cavan at McHale Park.

A Barry Moran goal, allied to the contributions from Conor Mortimer (0-7) and Alan Dillon (0-5), saw John O'Mahony's side bounce back from their Connacht championship exit.

Cavan foraged well and three points from Dermot McCabe left the visitors trailing by just 0-9 to 0-6 at half-time.

McCabe netted from a penalty to put Cavan ahead and although Jason Reilly and Rory Gallagher also beat Mayo 'keeper David Clarke, the westerners had enough of a cushion to see out the win.
