The Taoiseach Enda Kenny has denied that rural Ireland's economy is “dead”.
Kenny has admitted there have been financial “catastrophes”, but claims it is all about to change.
The Fine Gael leader has been responding to concerns over the slow pace of recovery outside urban areas - the latest survey shows that seven out of ten people living in rural Ireland feel more effort is needed to promote job growth in their communities.
Mr Kenny has said large international investment will help development outside our big cities.
“I don’t accept at all anybody’s thesis that provincial Ireland is dead,” said the Taoiseach.
“Yes, there have been catastrophes. Yes, there are places that have suffered unduly.
“Now the challenge is to make that (investment) happen in another way. It’s all changing.”
