'Attempted murder of a police officer' leads to PSNI search

The hunt is well underway for those behind the attempted murder of a police officer in South Armagh.

The victim is now in a stable condition after being pinned between his patrol car and a truck yesterday.

A low loader matching the description of the lorry involved has been found burnt out in the Mullyash Mountain area in County Monaghan.

Anne Connolly is the chair of the Northern Ireland policing board has said it was a brutal murder bid and those who have information need to come forward.

“We are very fortunate that we are not facing the same situation they faced a couple of weeks ago in Liverpool where an officer was hit by a car and killed,” she said.

“So it is a stark reminder to us of the daily dangers officers face in just doing their job and trying to let people go about their lives and keeping people safe from harm.”
