The Government has accepted that Ireland needs to take urgent action to reduce the country's impact on global warming.

The Taoiseach was on hand today to launch a new national action plan on combating climate change.

The plan aims to reduce emissions through a combination of education campaigns and measures to cut energy usage in transport, industry and residential settings.

Bertie Ahern says that, as a society, Ireland must become more carbon efficient to protect the country's futures and competitiveness.
