Dublin airport is to remain closed until at least midday tomorrow following a new update from the Irish Aviation Authority.

The IAA has said the latest restrictions have been enforced as a result of an increased quantity of volcanic ash over Irish airspace.

Once again the volcanic ash cloud has drifted into Irish airspace bringing severe disruptions in its wake.

At 8.30pm this evening the Irish Aviation Authority extended the closure of Dublin airport until at least noon tomorrow with Donegal airport will also be closed until noon.

Airports in the West are also affected, with Sligo and Knock set to remain closed until 9am tomorrow.

Galway and Waterford are expected to reopen at 6am, while Cork, Shannon and Kerry remain open.

The ash plume has also entered British airspace with restrictions over large parts of the UK until lunchtime tomorrow.

Passengers intending to travel by air over the next few days are advised to check with their airlines.

A further update will be available from the IAA tomorrow morning at half past nine.
