Benteke out for six weeks

Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke is set to miss “four to six weeks” with a hip injury.

Manager Paul Lambert confirmed the striker’s injury, suffered during the weekend win over Norwich, following Tuesday night’s 4-0 Capital One Cup defeat to Tottenham.

Benteke was forced off early at Carrow Road and was sent to have scans amid fears he was set to face an extended period on the sidelines.

And while the Belgium international is set to miss at least a month it is a prognosis that is not as bad as first suggested.

“Paul Lambert confirms Christian Benteke will be out for four-six weeks,” Villa announced on their Twitter page.

“Better news than he first feared. #AVFC.”

Villa were well beaten on tonight in Benteke’s absence with summer signing Libor Kozak – who scored the winner at Norwich – handed a start in his place.
