The Thai government today rejected peace talks with Red Shirt leaders, demanding protesters in Bangkok disperse first.

Cabinet minister Satit Wonghnongtaey quoted the prime minister as saying that “the situation will end only when the protest stops”.

The comments came after Red Shirt protest leaders said they would accept a proposal from the Senate leader to mediate talks between the two sides to end violence in the Thai capital that has killed 37 people in the past five days.
