Report: Vulnerable children left on waiting lists due to lack of beds

Vulnerable children are being left on waiting lists or in care abroad due to a lack of secure care beds in Ireland.

The Child Care Law Reporting Project has published 30 cases in the first volume of its 2015 reports.

It has said most of the cases they report show that many parents whose children come to the attention of social services are themselves vulnerable.

Among the cases in the volume is one where a care order was granted for a child until she reached 18 after her father offered to abuse her online.

An interim care order was also granted for a baby found at night in a car and a number of the cases involve children who must be cared for in a secure unit to receive the treatment they need.
