DAA defends proposed job cuts
The Dublin Airport Authority (DAA) has defended its dramatic new cost-cutting plan as being necessary to secure the future of the country's three main airports.
The DAA unveiled details today of proposals to cut 400 jobs and implement a pay freeze for all staff in Dublin, Cork and Shannon.
The job losses comprise part of a €55m cost-cutting plan unveiled at a meeting with unions this afternoon.
The plan is to be implemented in eight weeks time, following negotiations with the unions.
Workers received a letter this morning outlining the serious financial problems facing the company, and explaining that drastic cuts need to be made in order to keep the company afloat.
