O'Sullivan preparing seagull policy argument for new Seanad term

The Senator who complained about Dublin's seagulls "losing the run of themselves" said he is preparing a file for the Government on the problem.

Ned O'Sullivan said he stands by his comments in the Seanad, which attracted attention from around the world in July.

Senator O'Sullivan said he was worried about children "being dispossessed of their lollipops".

But he said the media made light of a serious issue, and he will raise it again.

"I've done a small bit of research since. Every major city in Europe and throughout the world has a seagull programme and policy, and I'll be raising it pretty soon in the new term in the Seanad - with perhaps a little bit more factual basis to back up what was, initially, a reaction to what I was getting from people on the streets."

"I never made a specific proposal of any nature … a cull would not be something that would appeal to me … but there are lots of other alternative methods."

He said such policies were common in cities including Boston and Amsterdam.
