A paraplegic wanted by police investigating a murder in the UK today lost his appeal against extradition in the Republic of Ireland’s highest court.
Three judges sitting at the Supreme Court ruled that Jason Brady should be surrendered to authorities in the West Midlands.
The 27-year-old, who is confined to a wheelchair as a result of injuries sustained in an unrelated car accident in Ireland in 2006, is wanted in connection with the death of Charles William Tandy, on December 10, 2001.
Mr Tandy died and another person was injured when he was hit by a stolen car which was fleeing a technology building at Redding Lane, Tyseley, Birmingham after a laptop had been stolen.
Despite the ruling, the Chief Justice, Mr John L Murray, released Brady on continuous bail and postponed the making of the order for 10 days.
Brady was told to return to the Supreme Court on January 24 when the extradition order will be officially issued.
The Chief Justice said the relevant authorities have until that date to ensure arrangements are made to transfer Brady to the UK or have the correct facilities to hold him in an Irish jail.
