Twenty-one people have been injured following the collapse of a stairwell at the Natural History Museum in Dublin city centre this morning.

They were on a stone stairwell at the museum on Merrion Street when it collapsed at 11.30am, but no one is believed to have suffered life-threatening injuries.

Ten of the injured have been taken to hospital by ambulance, while the others were treated at the scene for minor injuries and shock.

The incident occurred during a private training course for primary-school teachers in an area at the rear of the museum that is not normally used by the public.

The museum has been closed and Arts Minister Seamus Brennan says he has ordered a full safety review of the entire building.
