Alonso gets green light for Bolton trial

Real Sociedad have allowed midfielder Mikel Alonso to join Bolton for their pre-season training camp in Austria.

Real Sociedad have allowed midfielder Mikel Alonso to join Bolton for their pre-season training camp in Austria.

Wanderers are considering signing the 27-year-old for next season and the relegated Basque outfit are willing to negotiate.

“Bolton Wanderers have shown an interest in acquiring Mikel Alonso,” said a club statement.

“Real Sociedad have accepted the request made by the English club to allow Alonso to take part in the pre-season stage with Bolton in Austria.

“After that, Bolton will have to announce to Real Sociedad if they are definitely going to make an offer for the player.”

Alonso could claim the squad place of Idan Tal, who looks to be on his way out of the Reebok Stadium after he was given permission to hold talks with Israeli champions Beitar Jerusalem.

The 31-year-old Israel midfielder only joined Wanderers from Maccabi Tel Aviv last summer but spent the majority of the season as a substitute.

A Wanderers spokesman said on the club’s official website, www.bwfc.co.uk: “We are in the process of giving permission to Beitar Jerusalem to speak to Idan Tal with a view to the Israeli club signing the player.”

Beitar are looking to strengthen before their Champions League qualifier against FC Copenhagen later this month.

Tal is currently with the Bolton squad in Austria and, if a deal cannot be reached this week, will travel to the squad to South Korea.
